Empower Parents: imagining common spaces
Empower Parents: imagining common spaces, is a publishing project by the ICO Foundation and hablarenarte, linked to the Empower Parents programme, developed by both institutions from 2013 to 2019 at the ICO Museum in Madrid.
The publication is structured in three chapters: Context, Conversations and Practice.
In Context, we present the experience of Empower Parents from its origin in theQueens Museum in New York toits implementation in the ICO Museum in Madrid. At the end of the chapter we include some notes that are the product of the reflection of these years, as well as setting out the challenges for the future and, why not, confessing everything that we would have liked to do and we weren’t able to put into practice until now.
In Conversations, we include eleven interviews with different agents, artists and families who have participated in the programme over these years and they tell us about their experiences in first person.
The third chapter,Practice, focuses on presenting the programme for families with children with autism developed over these years at the ICO Museum. We approach it in a practical way with the intention of answering those doubts that arose to us when we started this adventure. We hope, at least, to get closer to this desire.
